Almost There!

I took notes on our adventures in the hotel and in Estes Park, when we couldn't be in our house because of the floors, but it was just a little too eventful for me to manage posting about right now. (Just a little sampling: We woke up the first morning in the hotel to freezing rain/snow and a flat tire on our van. When I finally limped over to the tire place, I was informed that it would be a 5+ hour wait! Luckily, Brittany is awesome and chauffeured the two littlest and me around for the entire day - including when I needed to be at the school for a special event for Jon's class... I'm pretty excited for that girl to marry my brother!)
Our floors turned out to have some problems and have to have more work done. I am sooooo ready to get back to real life, but I definitely want to have things right when we're paying so much for them! The crew will be back tomorrow to do more work, and the countertops were measured yesterday, so I know we're nearing the end. Hopefully just a couple more weeks.
We have been working our tails off to get all the cabinets built and installed. Here's what the kitchen looks like today:

And some pictures from our "homeless" adventures: (the dog was sleeping on the steering wheel)

Let There Be Light!

The electrician finally finished! (Got an un-recommendation if anybody needs one...) We spent the afternoon yesterday running around playing the "what's on this breaker?" game. Still got a few "mystery breakers" to figure out, but we'll get there.
And, because we're not good at sleeping, we slapped paint on the ceiling, kitchen, and front room, and installed our kitchen light fixtures.
Tomorrow, the much-delayed refinishing of the floors happens! We're in the home stretch!

(No, I didn't just happen to catch Mark with his eyes closed. He was pretty much asleep on his feet.)

It Got Cold

So we've been stuck in our "nest" today. The kitchen/front room look fantastic, and Mark and I are in the process of painting now. No pictures of that because the electrician is a lame-o and STILL not done. (He says he'll be here first thing tomorrow morning. I'll believe it when I see it...)
Here's some pictures of the little guys though:

What a Difference a Day Makes

Yesterday:

Today:

We seem to have given some people the impression that we're doing all of this ourselves, so I want to clarify: We are working with a fantastic general contractor on all the floors, electrical, and drywall. We know just enough to know we can't do all that ourselves!  I've been super impressed with the guys that have been here working. They're very good at what they do, very professional, and just nice!

The contractors' work is almost done. Tomorrow is the start of sanding/finishing the floor, and then they've just got the little things like installing baseboard and light fixtures.

The parts we are doing ourselves: painting, assembling and installing cabinetry, and putting in the sink after the countertop guys are done with that.

Originally, we thought everything would be done by Thanksgiving.  Unfortunately, it looks like it'll be the week after. I don't mind though - I hate turkey, so I have an excuse to skip it this year! :) But we will totally have everything done before my birthday, so I'm definitely making my chocolate torte in my new kitchen!

Catching Up

No, we're not working in the kitchen today, but I have pictures that haven't been updated yet, so here they are!

The front room floor: (they'll sand the whole thing this week)

I think it's WAY prettier than the orange-y wood that was so popular when the house was built...

Putting together cabinets!

Mike came down the stairs and said it looks like "Santa's workshop for adults!"

Paint choices. Luckily, we drove back out to Ikea to see them with the countertops before we made the final choice. The countertops are brown, and make the red undertones look very pink. Not what I'm going for here...

Abi's church outfit today. We stayed home with sick Kai, so I had to take pictures to show off my pretty girl.

As Normal As Possible

That's how we're trying to keep life at the moment. Obviously, being shoved into less house than we're used to and having no kitchen sink or cooking appliances (or electricity ontwo entire levels of the house) makes things a little different, but everything else has to keep going. Here's the highlights from the past week:

Pack meeting was Thursday night. Isaac loves cub scouts. He has awesome den leaders!

This time, he got his Cyber Chip, Whittling Chip, Howling at the Moon,  and Digging in the Past awards. He was sooooo close to finishing his award on coins, but we didn't quite make it. I'm amazed at how quickly he chugged through these though!

We've played a lot of "Blokus" this week. With Kai, that means we just try to for all of the pieces on the board with no gaps. Over and over and over.

Luckily, Abi has been relatively content to just hang out and explore new textures.

These two crack me up! They have such a fun relationship - Abi thinks Kai is the best thing since sliced bread, and he's not sure he prefers making her smile over making her cry. Kai defends her fiercely from others though, including Brother Flame, who Kai was convinced was going to steal Abi when I let him hold her. (Brother Flame is the Scout Master in the pictures from pack meeting.  He's one of the sweetest and most trustworthy people I've ever met.)

We decided to branch out from headbands. Abi wasn't sure about the hat.

She's teething right now, and still the sweetest little thing! I'm so glad we ended up with her!

A Baby Haiku

Because she's a good sleeper:

Little angel girl,
Serene amidst the chaos,
In peace, she slumbers.

A Day Late

Now I'm a day behind in pictures... The electrical still isn't done - we have to replace the entire breaker box. The electrician said that whoever installed the last one "didn't know what they were doing." I think I'm glad this all needed to be fixed after all...

In the morning light

Here's how the kitchen looked:

The electrician didn't come today, so the only progress was on the front room floor. That's looking quite lovely though!
Tomorrow, our cabinets will be delivered, and we'll be spending all our free moments assembling the boxes so we can install them as soon as the kitchen drywall/floor/ceiling is ready. Hopefully, we'll stay on schedule to have them in and ready for the countertop templating a week from tomorrow...
