Merry Christmas!

There's something magical about glimmering tree lights.

Mark and I stayed up entirely too late building the boys a kitchen to match ours.

Stockings and Santa bags ready to roll!

They were supposed to be chef's hats and mustaches, but I think Jon looks more like a certain Mario brother.

Kai wore his hat for all of 30 seconds...

But Abi played along well!

So did Uncle Mike.

And soon-to-be-Aunt Brittany.

Even Grandma Sue joined the fun!

And then the mustaches became eyebrows...

So we adjourned to the kitchen.

After breakfast, we got all dolled up and headed to church. It was a short service today, filled with beautiful music and thoughts on Christ. Abi let me take her picture in her Christmas outfit:

These two joined us, since next Sunday it'll be officially their ward too! (Can you tell why my boys LOVE them?)

After church, it was right back to playing.

Hope your Christmas was as wonderful as ours!

The Struggle Starts Early...

That looks delicious... I know I probably shouldn't indulge too much, but maybe just a little taste...

I really shouldn't, but it smells amazing too!

Naw, girl, have some self control!

Ha! Self control! Ain't nobody got time for that!

Oh, um, hi...

This is how our kids help build a kitchen.

Just a little farther

Countertops! I LOVE them! Still got more work to do, but now we can actually use the kitchen for its purpose. :) Unless a sink is required... Washing dishes in the bathtub still feels wrong.

A Light Snack

We decorated the tree for FHE tonight. Abi helped with the lights.

Mike baked cookies, Jon sorted ornaments, and Jeeves almost knocked over the tree.

Isaac played D.J.

And Kai and Mark did the other stuff.

I put Abi to bed while listening to my men sing carols in 3 part harmony. Life doesn't get any better!

These Two...

Some days, these two make my heart want to explode. Other days, these two make my everything want to explode. Luckily, today it was just my heart.

For my birthday...

We got to move furniture back upstairs! We bought a new table, but haven't had time to assemble it yet, so these pictures have the old one. We're still working on filler pieces, range hood installation, toe kick, and stuff like that, but it feels like we're getting close on this kitchen.

Wild Thing

Here, we can observe the Bailey young in her native habitat... (we were repotting plants that desperately needed some TLC)

All Six

We finally took a family picture with all six of us. That's still weird. This is the totally unedited us - after church, in our empty front room, totally exhausted, somewhat rumpled, but definitely happy.

The floors are finally done! In a couple days, we can get rid of The Nest and move everything back upstairs. Kai isn't as excited as I am, but he is cuter, so he's the model for these pictures:

Mike is pretty happy his "bridge troll" will be gone...

Almost There!

I took notes on our adventures in the hotel and in Estes Park, when we couldn't be in our house because of the floors, but it was just a little too eventful for me to manage posting about right now. (Just a little sampling: We woke up the first morning in the hotel to freezing rain/snow and a flat tire on our van. When I finally limped over to the tire place, I was informed that it would be a 5+ hour wait! Luckily, Brittany is awesome and chauffeured the two littlest and me around for the entire day - including when I needed to be at the school for a special event for Jon's class... I'm pretty excited for that girl to marry my brother!)
Our floors turned out to have some problems and have to have more work done. I am sooooo ready to get back to real life, but I definitely want to have things right when we're paying so much for them! The crew will be back tomorrow to do more work, and the countertops were measured yesterday, so I know we're nearing the end. Hopefully just a couple more weeks.
We have been working our tails off to get all the cabinets built and installed. Here's what the kitchen looks like today:

And some pictures from our "homeless" adventures: (the dog was sleeping on the steering wheel)

Let There Be Light!

The electrician finally finished! (Got an un-recommendation if anybody needs one...) We spent the afternoon yesterday running around playing the "what's on this breaker?" game. Still got a few "mystery breakers" to figure out, but we'll get there.
And, because we're not good at sleeping, we slapped paint on the ceiling, kitchen, and front room, and installed our kitchen light fixtures.
Tomorrow, the much-delayed refinishing of the floors happens! We're in the home stretch!

(No, I didn't just happen to catch Mark with his eyes closed. He was pretty much asleep on his feet.)
