Toast People

The quest for creative ways to get our kids to eat continues, this time with bacon and egg hot tubs for their toast people.

One of these years, I'm going to get my act together and post Christmas pictures before we start thinking about spring break...

This year, the Skylanders joined us in Christmas festivities.

Isaac worked hard to be sure they had perfect hats.

Jon just worked hard at being Jon.

One of the boys in Isaac's class invited him to a gingerbread house party. This was Isaac's creation.

On Christmas Eve, we visited a house nearby that had the coolest light display - in front yard AND back! They had trains, dolls, hot cocoa, and tons of lights. The boys loved it.

Kai approved of his Christmas outfit from Grandma and Grandpa Wallace - it was tasty.

Jon's favorite present was the Duplo train set from Grandpa and Grandma Bailey.

But he also loved his pizza stratch-and-sniff stickers!

Isaac was more thoughtful in his gift opening this year.

And Mark apparently got what he wanted - new Sunday clothes!

Jon snuck off to play T-ball while we were still opening presents.

Kai didn't mind that Jon wasn't paying attention.

Mark got 6 of the same chocolate bars, wrapped individually, but he was good at acting surprised.

I know, it's blurry, but it's hard to get boys to hold still on Christmas.

And they turn into monsters after too many presents.

Kai's reaction to the monsters:

I've been wanting to buy these for Jon for forever! I'm so glad he liked them!

I won on Isaac's present this year - it's called Snap Circuits Jr. - the boys played with it all morning.

And Kai just ate things.

And wore his Halloween shirt...

How we do Homework

This was forever ago, but I figured I'd post it anyway. Isaac comes home with a list of sight words to practice reading from time to time - I say "from time to time" because Isaac is an amazing reader and usually passes his words off before his teacher has made the next set of lists. Anyway, he had some that were tripping him up, so we did some practice at home using cotton balls dipped in flour and baked. Odd, I know. We wrote the words on the baked cotton balls, he read them, and we smashed them. Best homework ever.

Mommy school

Since Jon is preschool aged, we work together at home on "Mommy School". It's one of his favorite things now, and, pretty much as soon as Isaac is out of the car for school, Jon wants to know what we're doing for his school.
This week, we've been working on valentines. He cut out his own heart shape, wrote "I love" with only spelling help, and decorated it with stickers. I thought he did an awesome job. He's really been working on writing a lot lately - I guess he's trying to catch up with Isaac. That "a" is a sample of his best work. The other picture is his depiction of Mad Face - one of Isaac's classic villains. I think he looks pretty vicious.

5 months!

Kai made it to 5 months - last week, but close enough! He's got 2 teeth, finally weighs a much as Jon did at 1 month (14 lbs), and generally has a three hour stretch at night (yes, that's progress). He's pretty darn cute!

Somebody pointed out to me that Blogger has an app, and it might be easier to get photos on the blog this way. So I figure I'll try it out with a picture or two for grandmas who need a kiddo fix. I'll get around to a real post soon.

Family Photos

So... I was thinking that by now I'd have posted Christmas photos... The last few weeks have been consumed by two things: the flu, and teething. The good news is that Kai cut his first tooth today! The bad news is that only Kai and I have made it back up to 90-something percent health after the flu. (Mark is currently the sick-o, and the other two haven't gotten it... yet.)
Anyway, the reason I'm so slow with Christmas photos is that everything is on either my phone or Mark's, and we haven't yet installed all the software to get the phones and computers to cooperate. So, the process for phone-to-blog transfer involves emailing myself all the photos (as separate files), downloading the photos (as separate files), and then uploading the photos (luckily, Blogger lets me do that as a batch). It takes quite a bit longer than I can allow right now.
So, instead of Christmas pictures, I'm FINALLY getting around to posting the family photos that Ashley took for us in November. Or maybe it was even October... Yikes!
(Nope, still not getting to Kai's newborn photos that she did. Maybe I'll get there before he graduates from high school.)

Jon in my sweater. He has a certain look that we were trying to catch, but he didn't cooperate that day.

Isaac was only giving us his super cheesy grins until we started teasing him that a certain girl might like his picture.

Kai is just always cute.

Somehow, we got these two to look like they like each other.

I haven't had my picture taken in a long time, so I consented. Ashley is obviously a fantastic editor, because you can't tell I have huge bags under my eyes.

Not sure why Kai was pulling that face, but the rest of us look happy.

And, let's face it, Kai is definitely the center of attention around here.

(For those who might be wondering why Mark didn't have his picture done, we figured we'd let Ashley off the hook with editing his face after his car accident. Oh, plus Kai was throwing fits and the other two boys were rolling in the dirt by the barn. But, hey, other than that...)
